2008: A Look Back |
In 2008, expanded its product line to include the ReActive, with a new, more aggressive thread design, and focused its resources on building a well trained customer service staff and outside sales force in North America. Implant Direct clearly established itself as the "Cost Containment" leader in the Dental Implant Industry with ads that compare prices. We proudly present this look back at our accomplishments during the year. |

Our Customer Support Center, established in Santa Clarita, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, was staffed with 14 customer service and technical sales representatives by the end of 2007. In 2008, we expanded this operation, taking over the second floor in the front section of this new building, allowing us to add 18 more cubicles. This brought the total head count to 32 technical sales people plus managers and IT personnel. In December 2008, an additional contiguous 2500sq ft was added for a large lecture room and making space for expansion to 42 customer service representatives. Using state-of-the-art order management and telecommunications equipment, this service center will continue to provide unparalleled technical support and customer service to our constantly expanding customer base that is expanding at a rate of about 500 new accounts each month.
During 2008, Implant Direct hired an experienced VP of Sales for North America and grew our sales force from 5 to 25. Our inside technical sales representatives are assigned, by region, throughout the United States and partnered with a Regional Sales Representative wherever possible, for better service to our customers. We have established a toll-free phone service for our US and Canadian customers. Dentists around the world can correspond by email for a quick response to their technical questions. Our offices in Europe are establishing a similar model of in-house technical and sales support for customers and distributors.
Implant Direct - The Cost Containment Leader
Expansion Of Manufacturing Capacity
In anticipation of increased demand for the new products we will launch in the early part of 2009, Implant Direct has expanded its manufacturing capacity by adding two new CNC machines for a total of 28. We sold approximately 200,000 implants in our second year of operation, and with our lights-out manufacturing and expanded capacity, Implant Direct can assure its existing and new customers a broad product line of 12 different systems without backorder issues.

The ReActive Tri-Lobe implant combines a Nobel Replace compatible Tri-Lobe connection, an evenly tapered body for increased stability in soft bone and a round apex to guide the implant along the path of the prepared socket without deviation. The round apex also facilitates sinus elevation through the socket without tearing the membrane. In addition, the ReActive offers double-lead threads for faster insertion, micro threads for reduced stress in the critical crestal bone region and progressively deeper threads for increased surface area. The ReActive implant was added to Implant Direct's family of Tri-Lobe implants (RePlant and RePlus) following the introduction of the Nobel Active implant because Implant Direct believes that Nobel Biocare clinicians should not have to change platforms just to get deeper threads. With ReActive offering All-In-One packaging with a fixture-mount that can be used as a transfer and shortened to serve as a fully preparable abutment, dentists considering use of the Nobel Replace or Nobel Active implants can enjoy a 70% cost savings compared to Nobel Biocare's list prices for comparable components. Nobel Biocare is advertising the Nobel Active as "The Implant of the Future" in spite of the fact that it uses a lead-in bevel/internal hex connection developed by Dr. Niznick in 1986 (US Pat. #4,960,381 - Expired 2007), we believe that the "Implant of the (Nobel Customer's) Future" is the ReActive implant from Implant Direct.
ReActive Dental Implants are now available for ordering world-wide.

In 2008, Implant Direct has once again raised the bar for dental implant companies doing business on the Internet. We have prepared and posted informative and thought provoking high-quality streaming videos to further enhance our online support and customer education commitments. Thousands of professionals world-wide have attended Dr. Niznick's lecture on "The Changing Realities Of Implant Dentistry". Recognizing the importance of this lecture which challenges the conventions of modern implantology, Dr. Niznick has created an online version of this lecture. We recommend that you view the entire lecture (1.5 hrs) in the order presented, but you can easily jump to a specific chapter or topic using the embedded navigator on the right-side of the screen.

2009: A Look Forward |

SwissPlant™: The SwissPlant System represents the first line of implants designed for insertion at tissue-level, bone-level or anywhere in between. This is demonstrated in our surgical video. We anticipate that the 4.1mmD and 4.8mmD SwissPlant implants will be available in January 2009 with the other 3 diameters to follow in the second quarter of 2009, along with the Legacy+ and GoDirect implants. These two SwissPlant diameter implants, along with the 4.8mmD implant with the 6.5mmD platform will offer surgical compatibility with Straumann's drills in soft bone with an additional drill required for dense bone. The platforms for these three surgically compatible implants are also prosthetically compatible with the same octagon and 8 degree lead-in bevel. The SwissPlant 4.8mmD and 6.5mmD platforms also have an internal square for engagement by the color coded fixture-mount for insertion. The fixture-mounts also serve as transfers and can be shortened for use as the final 5.5mm high straight abutment with snap-on transfer capabilities. In addition, the SwissPlant System provide a 3.3mmD implant with a 3.7mmD and 5.7mmD implant with the 6.5mmD platform, all available in 5 lengths including a short 6mm implant. The SwissPlant implants include micro-threads and progressively deeper flat-based (Straumann) threads first developed for the ReActive implant, providing increased surface area for increased stability in soft bone.
Legacy+™: The Legacy+ System is the second generation of the Legacy implants, both offering the popular lead-in bevel/internal hex connection developed in 1986 by Dr. Niznick (US. Pat. # 4,960,381 expired 2007). The broadened line of Legacy abutments are compatible with the Zimmer Dental Screw-Vent as well as the BioHorizon's and MIS implants with the "Niznick" internal connection. The Legacy+ incorporates the micro-threads and progressively deeper, flat based threads of the ReActive implant, providing greater surface area for increased stability in soft bone. Legacy+ will offer the industry's broadest options of diameters (6) from 3.2mm increasing every 1/2mm to 5.7mm and in lengths from 6mm to 16mm (6mm implant not shown below). Unlike the current Legacy System which has an aluminum frictional fixture-mount, the Legacy+ implants are mounted on color coded titanium fixture-mounts designed for use as transfers and to be shortened for use as final abutments with pre-prepared margins.
GoDirect™: The GoDirect System provides the industry's first one-piece dental implant designed to interface with Zest Anchor Company's popular Locator Attachment™. It will be available in 3mmD and 3.7mmD diameters for insertion with our Spectra-System and Zimmer Dental's Screw-Vent drills as well as in 3.5mmD and 4.3mmD for insertion with our RePlant and Nobel Biocare's Replace drills. These implants will be available in 10mm, 11.5mm and 13mm lengths with 2mm and 3.5mm collar heights. In addition, the implant is internally threaded to accept ball and screw-receiving abutments if the treatment plan changes years later. The concept of using two free-standing implants to retain a lower overdenture was first introduced by Dr. Niznick in 1982 with the Core-Vent System. This is now considered "standard of care" by the American College of Prosthodontists. The GoDirect one-piece implant is the latest addition to the Application Specific Spectra-System, offering implant, abutment, transfer and retentive cap all for only $150, approximately the same price of the Locator Abutment, Transfer and Attachment sold by Implant Direct and many other companies.
