This course will review the basic tenants of oral surgery appropriate for the general practitioner. We will explore the use of minimally invasive and alveolar ridge preservation techniques and the management of common complications associated with tooth extractions. This course will cover the armamentarium necessary to perform extractions both surgically and atraumatic. There will be a deep dive into surgical and suturing techniques as well as opportunities for hands-on workshops; including live surgeries (limited spots available). Perioperative management and postoperative expectations will finalize the course.

• Understand the surgical tenants and techniques of basic oral surgical procedures
• Review grafting options, techniques, and adjuncts for the maxillofacial region
• Practice the technique of ridge preservation grafting
• What to expect in the perioperative period of patient healing, complications, and the management thereof
• Identify instruments that should be used to perform simple, surgical, and atraumatic extractions
• Analyze and evaluate surgical difficulty and manage risk assessment in medically compromised patients who require tooth extractions
• How to apply simple concepts and principles of guided bone regeneration (GBR), including socket preservation for future implant placements
• Perform other common oral surgery procedures in the general dental practice
• Understand and avoid medico-legal issues associated with oral surgery through case selection and informed patient consent
